Studying for 70-502

I Haven't had any time to post anything the last week or so. I've been busy (and still am) with studying for the 70-502 MCTS exam. Since the Self-Paced training kit keeps getting postponed I'm using my collection of 'regular books' and the list of requirements. I've also just purchased access to MeasureUp test-exams so at least I can get a feel for the questions and see where my weak spots are. I'm taking the exam next monday at 9.00 a.m. I'll keep you posted...

Silverlight 2 Beta 2 has been released last Friday. You can get the best overview of the new features on
Scott Guthrie's Blog. One of the cool new fearues is of course the ViewState Manager, but according to Scott the Silverlight team will also release SL2 with a huge amount of controls!
We ultimately expect to ship over a 100 controls for Silverlight.

Sounds cool!

WPF 3D or XNA

There's an interesting article over on The Visual Studio 2008 Blog about when to choose WPF 3D instead of the XNA Framework for your 3D needs.
Whereas XNA is a clear winner when it comes to 3d games that require complex rendering stuff and the highest possible performance. In LOB applications the case for WPF is a strong: tight integration of 2D and 3D interface elements, possibility to embed your WPF control in WinForms and most of all: productivity. The speed with which you can whip up a 3D interface in WPF is unrivalled. Combine that with the possibility to do databinding, out-of-the-box hit-detection and even the new bitmapeffects... WPF FTW!
