Managing Your WPF Splash Screen's Lifecycle

A nice tip here from Boris Eligulashvili on DevX.Com about Managing Your WPF Splash Screen's Lifecycle. The STA WPF applications are running in is causing some grief when doing this manually. You'd want to do this if the static image the SplashScreen-class offers is not enough for you and you've mad yourself a more fancy splash-screen.

Silverlight 2.0 for Mobile

A while back I wrote a post about Silverlight 1.0 for Mobile being announced. Back then Microsoft claimed it would be released in Q2 of 2008. As we're well into Q4 now, I looked again at the Microsoft Silverlight for Mobile site so see what the current status was.
To my surprise the page hasn't changed much, except for the fact that it's no longer version 1.0 of Silverlight that's coming to Mobile but 2.0 and it's no longer Q2 of 2008 but Q2 of 2009 ^_^

Nevertheless, this Mix 08 demonstration of Silverlight running on Mobile was pretty nice. I really liked the Vista mockup running on mobile on which Giorgio Sardo started Powerpoint for mobile to run his presentation :)

This has nothing to do with WPF directly, but everything with being a good developer in general. This list of 91 Surefire Ways to Become an Even Greater Developer is awe-inspiring but oh so useful. It reminds us all, as developers, we're never done learning. Going through the list is sort of a humbling experience and well worth your time, if you ask me!

Can someone explain this game to me? Quixo3D

This game sure looks nice:

But I have absolutely no idea how to play this tic-tac-toe on Steroids :) It's made with WPF 3D though and looks fascinating and positively nerdy. I can't seem to figure out how it works though. It might also have to do with the fact I'm playing this while hoovering my left index over the 'boss'-key :)

You can find the game on CodePlex

Infragistics Xamples are nice indeed

Somehow I never came across these Showcase applications by Infragistics before. They sure give a nice impression of the power of WPF. The LOB examples (xamlSales and xamlTrader) prove that WPF and business DO match.

When making business apps it's good to keep usability in mind. David Platt says 'Your user doesn't want to use your application, he wants to HAVE USED your application'. The app should be as unobtrusive as possible, while facilitating the user in accomplishing her business. I agree and in my opinion the Infragistic samples give a very nice example of this.
